Check out the Encyclopedia Mythica ( http://www.pantheon.org/ ).
It's "An encyclopedia on mythology, folklore, and legend" that has a
LOT of stuff, including your example of Polynesian mythology (275
articles). They also have a "Bestiary" of creatures, genealogy
tables (!), and a host of other good stuff. It's an excellent
resource.
