:Seperating the game into two is a possibility. However, this falls into
:the 'two muds in one' trap. In some aspects, it can appear rather
:contrived, and only existing as a means of attracting pure Socialisers.
Hmm. This triggered a thought...
Background: I allow online building in my world, but normally only by
designated "builders". However, the basement of the Builder's Guild has
a "Playpen" area, where everyone is a builder, but nothing they do in
there can leave that area, and there are a couple other restrictions. It
works fairly well, and in some early tests, when I pointed the area out,
people spent a fair while in there playing around.
So, could you not have a special area in the MUD where all of the normal
socializing stuff does work? A bit of creativity should be enough to come
up with a story as to why the area exists. If its a fantasy MUD, then
perhaps it is a wierd area a high wizard setup long ago in the past. For
a high-tech MUD, perhaps it is a night-time use of a VR training facility
or something.
