I agree completely, on more levels than just games and
coffee. Success at the education treadmill gives more control
(theoretically, at least) on the job treadmill. Success at the job
treadmill gives more control over the recreation treadmill (having
more time/money to spend). Success at the recreation treadmill gives
more control over the social treadmill. And so on.

So perhaps we need to take a lesson from real life. Instead of
creating more ladders for people to climb, all of which are
independent, perhaps it would be better to create webs that people
can climb, using one strand to help bootstrap themselves into
another.
