Historically a.m.programming has sourced a couple very lively threads on MUD
design.  More recently r.g.m.misc and r.g.m.diku have been the hotbeds ("Why
DIKU???" he asks himself in vain).

Ahh, I think it was about time for a little socialising.  Its useful sometimes
to get a bit of social detail about posters.

Agreed.  Ditto for MUD Evolution, Skill based Systems, Rethinking Rooms, etc.

Ignoring the complexity and typing ease of the required commands, if combat rounds run at, say, 1 per second, then yes, the short lag, fast typist etc will have a massive advantage.
