For those interested, I'll send the relevant source and other comments
in the original posting directly (encluding some of the to-and-fro
with Mirabilis).  It would seem that Mirabilis has been fairly
laggardly in respondingly to repeatedly demonstrated exploits.

More interesting for those of us looking at custom clients for our
servers, there's a fairly intelligent discussion going on in the ICGnu
(GPL ICQ clone) list that I'm also hosting at kanga.Nu regarding how
to work intelligently thru proxies and other firewall forms.
