In the USA, I'd expect that conversation-logs would be treated much
like any joint work, which is to say that the participants/authors
would all hold joint copyright (I expect), unless otherwise set
forth in a legally-binding agreement (e.g.: "by connecting to this
MUD, you agree to transfer complete and exclusive copyright of all
data posted to the owner of the MUD, affirmed by your signature
below").
In any case, it might help, it couldn't *hurt*, to get approval from
all particpiants/authors, so you might as well do it.
Of course, if you really care, then I suggest getting REAL legal
advice from a REAL legal attorney or a REAL justice having REAL
knowledge and understanding of your locale's REAL laws. Really, this
is discussion about something of which the sole value is that it's
designed, created, and interpreted by real people--it's not some
great existential quandary; so, if you have access to those people,
just go ASK them rather than trying to circumcogitate to the heart
of the matter ;)
