I don't know MySQL, but I use InterBase SQL server from Borland /
Inprise / InterBase Corp. There is a freeware version for Linux
available from http://www.interbase.com/
Having compared it to Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Sybase and Informix, I
believe it is one of the best servers around. I'd suggest looking
into it if you decide on pursuing the SQL idea.
I have not used SQL on the server side, but do use it on my client
side.
