Diablo 1. They made it impossible to attack people in the town - but
only on the client.

So, not only did griefers hack the client and attack people in town,
but the innocent victims could *not* fight back, nor even defend
themselves.

They had other fairly big problems in the years since, but nothing
as bad as that.

PS: loose definition of MMOG in order to include D1, but the point I
was making is that the nearest Blizzard has come to this genre they
had their one disaster a long time ago, and did NOT quit the market
but just did better next time.
