The Rolemaster paper gaming system had some great critical
success/failure tables in their Arms & Claw Law book. Often the
actual results weren't particularly related to the skill. Just be
imaginative (or flippant in the case of some of the Rolemaster
crits). For instance, stunning success could be a candle that shines
brighter or lasts longer (excessively so), and a stunning failure
could be that you slip and fall into a vat of molten wax causing
excruciating pain before death by suffocation.
