Writing as list owner:
Why, yes.
Many MUDs do not offer persistent worlds (eg all the reset based
games, suh as Aber, Diku, etc) -- most extant MUDs, and in
particular most text muds do not offer persistent worlds. While
persistent world games are an obvious interest for the list, the
definition of a MUD as requiring a persistent world is an
artificial and externally derived assumed orthodoxy (several list
dinosaurs lauded persistent worlds until they became the default
model and all the dissenting voices either shut up or left).
Further such non-persistent worlds suffer a largely identical set
of basic problems to persistent implementations.
