ok, about all the problems i was having.  doesn't have anything to do with 
yabbs.  turns out fubar has a hard time linking libraries unless you are 
VERY specific about telling it a) which lib to use and b) where it is.

pain in my ass, hopefully i should be getting an account on a Sun soon and 
won't have to deal with this pain in the ass RT.
