ok, forget it, i am just going to wait till i get the sun to bother 
working on this.  i deleted makeidx.c from the Makefile since i don't need 
it.  but now i am getting all kinds of errors with LOCK_EX and
 LOCK_UN being undeclared.  i will just wait for a while maybe.
