From: Ant@yabbs To: all@yabbs Subject: Yeats Date: Fri Apr 8 18:20:58 1994 On reading "The Second Coming" Swirling red sands shift across the scalded landscape, obscuring my vision and blinding me to the Sphinx, slowly shifting it's slow thighs and rising to its lion's feet, head of man looking about in semi concealed disbelief "Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world." Hordes of warriors march across the land obliterating all in sight the bright blood of the boys sent to fight another's war. "The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity." Bitterness is in my mouth I see that the world is how it is and nothing I do will change it. My dreams are dead and they will never become a phoenix in the skies of my mind. Yeats was right. Ant/Natalie Yeats is my favorite poet, and "The Second Coming" is my favorite poem. I think it says a lot about the condition of the world today...a lot of my dreams won't be able to come true because of previous generations and those who are in power right now, and quite frankly, I'm pissed. *grin* I don't know if I will be able to change things or not...I wrote this poem on a bad day (I write all my poetry on bad days), so I'm really not that pessimistic. Really. :)
