Welcome, Students, to TEXTFILES UNIVERSITY. My name is Jason Scott, Dean of Students, and I am very pleased to see you here today. As I look out among the sea of faces connecting to the site, I see all types of people. Young, fresh faces who want to learn the basics. Old-timers who want to relive the glory days. The curious and jaded who just want to browse a little before turning to other concerns. And, of course, the lurkers, not sure why they're even connecting, but feeling some pull to our hallowed campus. Greetings to all of you! In the coming semesters, you will be given the opportunity to learn all sorts of interesting and arcane subjects in Computer History and Lore. I'm happy to say that we have a large collection of such information, one of the largest of its types in the world, and as students you will have free run of the place. In fact, free is our watchword! Tuition is merely the cost of your computer and network connection, and the only application process is to run your browser. The world is already a bit full of organizations that vacuum your wallet and your parents' bank accounts for access to their precious resources, don't you think? Throughout the years, our library has seen hundreds of thousands of visitors. Some have browsed our collection extensively, while others merely needed a small bit of information before heading on their way. While our librarians have catalogued and sorted the library as best they could, there were no cohesive courses taught for the curious and Many of you will not make it through the courses. There is no shame in this. You are to be commended for your interest in the subjects we offer, and even if you do not accept all we have to give you, you will come away different than how you arrived. Perhaps some time in the future you will return to our halls and we will accept you with open arms; our doors are never closed to you. TEXTFILES U offers a number of courses, in various computer history subjects, for you to choose from. HACKOLOGY 101 FONE PHREAKING 101 FIDONET
